Wings, Wings, and More Wings!

I’ve come to the realization that wings are one of my go-to appetizers whenever I go out to eat! If you can mess up a simple chicken wing, that’s a problem. They cook fast and can come in almost any flavor you want! This time around, I wanted something spicy but tropical!

My Spicy Mango & Lime Wings were exactly what I never knew I needed in my life! I loved how they turned out! The flavors on these wings were crazy good! They were baked until crispy and then tossed in a rich Mango & Lime Sauce that had just the right amount of spice. I couldn’t get enough of them!

Spicy Mango & Lime Wings’ Ingredients:

These ingredients are really easy to work with and find in your local grocery store. It is the perfect season for fresh ingredients, so take advantage of that! Let’s walk through each ingredient so you understand.

  • Chicken Wings: This recipe calls for 2 lbs of party wings/wingettes. You can either buy them pre-cut or buy whole wings and cut them yourself. Either way, make sure to trim any remaining feathers off, and then clean your wings.

  • Cooking Oil: Before seasoning my chicken wings, I always add a small amount of oil. The oil helps the seasoning to stick to the wings. A simple cooking oil such as vegetable, grapeseed, or olive oil will work just fine.

  • Kosher Salt: I love kosher salt! You only need a small amount to make a big difference in your food. I used about 1 tbsp total for the two pounds of wings. I had more on the side just in case I needed a little extra flavor.

  • Season Mix: I went with a simple seasoning mix of onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, ground black pepper. I added some baking powder to the seasoning mix as well. The baking powder will help the wings become crispy while baking in the oven.

  • Mangos: I love Mangoes all year round, but especially during the summer. Make sure to use ripe mangoes. They will give you the best flavor in the sauce. Cube them before blending them as well.

  • Butter: I melted 1 stick (1⁄2 cup) of salted butter to go into the sauce. This makes the sauce into a Mango & Lime Buffalo Sauce. It also adds some creaminess to the sauce.

  • Garlic: I love the flavor that garlic added to pretty much everything! So, I had to add some to this sauce. You only need a small amount to make a big difference.

  • Hot Sauce: Any basic hot sauce will work just fine for this recipe. I decided to use Lousianna Style Hot Sauce. It adds the right amount of spice without being overwhelming.

  • Honey: The honey adds a dash of sweetness to the sauce. It also helps to balance some of the spice. I used about 3 tablespoons total.

  • Limes: The acidity from the lime juice and zest go great with this sauce. It adds the perfect amount of zing to the sauce. Make sure to zest the lime before you juice it.

  • Cayenne Pepper & Chili Powder: I added both Cayenne Pepper and Chili Powder to the sauce for some added heat and smokiness in the sauce. Make sure to measure these ingredients carefully or your mouth will be on fire.

  • Water: You’re probably wondering what the water is for. The puree makes the sauce a little thick so I used about ¼ cup of water to thin it out a little.

How to Make Spicy Mango & Lime Wings:

These wings have been added to my list of favorites. They are baked or air-fried instead of fried which makes them even better! They are so simple but packed with a lot of fresh flavors. I couldn’t get enough of these amazing wings!

The full written recipe is below, but here’s an overview.

  • Step 1: Always Preheat your Oven 1st. Preheat the oven to 425°F. If using an air-fryer, preheat to 400°F

  • Step 2: Prep your Pans or Air-Fryer. Line a half sheet pan with parchment paper and a wire rack. Spray the wire rack with non-stick spray.

  • Step 3: Clean & Pat Dry the Wings. Pat dry the chicken wings to remove any excess moisture. Add the wings to a large bowl and coat with 2 tbsp of cooking oil.

  • Step 4: Season the Wings. Season the wings with kosher salt, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, ground black pepper, and baking powder. Mix until all of the wings are fully seasoned.

  • Step 5: Bake the Wings until Crispy. Place the wings on the wire rack or in the air-fryer making sure to evenly space them apart. Bake the wings for 25 - 30 minutes in the oven or until golden brown and crispy. Halfway through the cooking process, flip the wings for even cooking.

  • Step 6: Make & Reduce the Sauce. While the wings are baking, combine the ingredients for the sauce in a blender or food processor. Blend until smooth. Add the sauce to a medium-sized saucepan and cook over medium heat. Allow the sauce to reduce for 5 - 7 minutes making sure to stir occasionally.

  • Step 7: Toss the Wings in the Sauce & Serve! Remove the wings from the oven or air-fryer when golden and crispy. Add the wings to a bowl and toss in the heated sauce until fully coated. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce (i.e. ranch or blue cheese) and enjoy!
