Sweet & Savory!

Summertime comes with sunny days, warm weather, cookouts, and vacations! No matter what is going on, this is the time that we should be enjoying our favorite summer foods! Fresh salads, BBQ ribs, burgers, and so many more are summer staples!

But, as for my Peach Bourbon Glazed Shrimp Recipe, nothing compares! The shrimp are seared or grilled to perfection and brushed with a sweet and savory Peach & Bourbon Glaze!

Bourbon & Peaches

This simple yet delicious recipe will knock your socks off! This is the perfect time for fresh fruits. They are in abundance and can be used in so many ways. Peaches and Bourbon are great food and liquor pairing that has been used for years.

The bourbon adds some amazing depth to the glaze. It also does not overpower the taste of the peach preserves. The glaze is sweet, but savory at the same time. The glaze can also be paired with other seafood. When I originally made this recipe, I had some extra salmon fillets that were going to be used for dinner.

I added some of the glaze to the fillets, and it made my mouth water. Whenever you are making a glaze, there is usually going to be some sort of sugary component in the recipe. Sugar, honey, syrup, and fruit preserves are some of the many ingredients that give glazes their shiny color and sticky feel.

peach Bourbon Glazed Shrimp Ingredients:

The ingredients are pretty simple in this recipe; but, let’s still walk through them to understand them.

This recipe is full of fresh flavors! The ingredients are really easy to find year-round! Plus, they are not complicated to use at all!

  • Shrimp: For this recipe, I suggest getting jumbo shrimp. They will cook fast but they won’t shrivel up as quickly as small-sized shrimp. I usually keep the tails on my shrimp. But, feel free to take them off if you so choose.

  • Seasoning Mix: The glaze is the star in this recipe. I decided to keep the seasoning on the shrimp simple to allow the glaze to shine. I used kosher salt, black pepper, and paprika.

  • Cooking Oil: A simple EVOO or vegetable oil will work just fine for the recipe. It is only being used to coat and sear the shrimp.

  • Parsley: I always like to add a little color and garnish to my recipes. I added some minced parsley to the shrimp for some contrast. If you don’t have it on hand, it doesn’t change the recipe at all.

  • Mini Wooden Skewers: Wooden skewers are great for cooking shrimp. They keep the shrimp intact and make them easier to maneuver on the grill.

  • Peach Preserves: I love using peach preserves in recipes! It saves you time without losing some great peach flavor. Plus, peach preserves make it easier to make this recipe year-round.

  • Bourbon: Bourbon and peaches have always been a great flavor combo! I used a simple Kentucky bourbon and allowed the alcohol to cook off in the glaze. It gave the glaze just the right amount of boldness.

  • Apple Cider Vinegar: To cut some of the sweetness and add some tang to the glaze, I added some apple cider vinegar. You don’t need too much. 4 tablespoons is just enough.

  • Onion & Garlic Powder: Onion and garlic powder are two of my staple seasonings! I wanted to add these flavors without adding the vegetables. The powders worked out great!

  • Cayenne Pepper: To add a bit of heat, I added in some cayenne pepper. Trust me, you only need a pinch. Too much of this will overpower the glaze.

How to make Peach Bourbon Glazed Shrimp

Now that we understand what goes into the recipe, let’s get started! I love how simple and easy this recipe is! I couldn’t get enough of these shrimp!

They are perfect for the summertime and takes no time at all to make! You and your guests will really enjoy them! The full written recipe is below, but here’s an overview.

  • STEP 1: Clean & Season the Shrimp. Peel and devein the shrimp, if needed. Add 3 tbsp of oil to the shrimp. Season the shrimp with salt, paprika, and black pepper.

  • STEP 2: Prep the Wooden Skewers if Grilling. If grilling, allow the wooden skewers to soak for a few minutes in water to prevent excessive burning. Add the shrimp to the skewers. Place the finished shrimp or skewers in a bowl or aluminum pan and refrigerate.

  • STEP 3: Make the Glaze. Mix all of the ingredients for the glaze in a small saucepot. Bring the mixture to a boil and then return to low heat. Allow the glaze to simmer for about 3 -5 minutes.

  • STEP 4: Sear or Grill the Shrimp. Heat a large cast-iron skillet, saute pan, or grill with 3 tbsp of oil on medium-high heat. Add the shrimp (or skewers) to the pan or grill in batches and sear on both sides.

  • STEP 5: Brush the Skewers with the Glaze. When the shrimp are almost finished cooking add the glaze and baste the shrimp in the glaze. If grilling, brush the glaze on both sides of the skewers with a pastry brush. Garnish with minced parsley and serve the remaining glaze.

Tips & Tricks

Here are some simple Tips & Tricks to make these Peach Bourbon Glazed Shrimp even better:

  • Try seasoning the shrimp ahead of time and allow them to marinate in the refrigerator overnight for maximum flavor.

  • Be mindful of the amount of salt that you use. Shrimp are smaller seafood, so they will absorb salt very fast. Overly salty shrimp is not the goal.

  • Remember to be mindful of the amount of heat used. A good sear or grill marks on the shrimp is what you want. When the shrimp are bright pink and plump, they should be done.
