I couldn’t get enough of these delicious sliders! They will be the perfect addition to your next party or function. They are simple to make and can be made in no time at all. I know you will love these sliders just as much as I did!
Steak & Cheese or Cheesesteak?
Whether you call it a steak & cheese or cheesesteak, it all goes down the same way! This simple sandwich has so much history! The cheesesteak originated in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and has become one of the most iconic sandwiches in history. It is one of my favorite sandwiches of all time.
There are so many places to get a cheesesteak in Philly. But, my all-time favorite place is Max's Steaks on Germantown Avenue! They have hand’s down one of the best cheesesteaks in the city! I will proudly debate anyone on this topic!
Steak & Cheese Sliders’ Ingredients:
This recipe combines so many simple ingredients into such small sandwiches! I love how they all work together so easily. The ingredients can be found in pretty much any store too which is even better!
Some of the ingredients are probably sitting in your refrigerator waiting to be used.
Slider Buns: For both burgers, and sandwiches I love good quality fresh bread. For these sliders, I suggest using either brioche or hawaiian slider buns. They are both buttery and full of flavor!
Beef: I suggest using sliced ribeye, flank, or sirloin. The biggest thing that has to be considered with the beef is making sure that it is sliced thinly. The meat will cook a lot faster and absorb the seasoning better.
Peppers: I used both red and green peppers in the steak mixture. The peppers add some texture while adding some additional flavor. I cut the peppers into thin strips.
Yellow Onion: There needs to be some sort of sauteed onion on my cheesesteak sandwiches. The caramelized onions go so well with the seasoned steak. I used yellow onions since they are slightly sweeter than white onions.
Cooking Oil: To saute the meat and vegetables I used simple cooking oil. Here are some of my options: grapeseed oil, vegetable oil, or olive oil.
Garlic: I decided to add a little minced garlic into the sauteed peppers and onions to add some extra flavor. You can easily add some onion powder if you do not have any fresh garlic.
Kosher Salt & Ground Black Pepper: Seasoning-wise, I used kosher salt and ground black pepper. I didn’t use anything extra to season because I really wanted the flavor of the beef to come out. Have more of both on the side to season to taste at the end.
Paprika: I added a small amount of paprika to the beef for a smoky flavor. If you have any smoked paprika then that would be even better!
Butter: You cannot have a steak and cheese sandwich without toasted buns! Take a little melted butter and brush it across each side of the buns and toasted them on a griddle or in an oven. Trust me, it makes a difference.
Cheese: The cheese you add to these sandwiches is critical for the optimal amount of flavor. Here are a few options that will work great on these sliders: Provolone, American, and Pepper Jack. I added a small amount of cheese into the meat and veggies while sauteing to make it even better.
Toppings: Everyone has their own personal preference for toppings on their steak and cheese sandwiches. Here are just a few that are pretty common:
Sauteed Mushrooms
Hot Peppers (Hots)
Pickled Jalapeno Slices
Chopped Lettuce
Sliced Tomatoes
Mayonnaise
Ketchup
Mustard
Hot Sauce
How to Make Easy Steak & Cheese Sliders
Now that we understand what goes into the recipe, let’s get started! The great thing about this recipe is how easy it is to make! I couldn’t get enough of these easy sliders. It’s funny how something so small can have so much flavor! They were the perfect lunch!
The full written recipe is below, but here’s an overview.
Step 1: Always Preheat the Oven First. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Heat a large skillet or flat-top griddle over medium-high heat with 1 tbsp of cooking oil.
Step 2: Brown & Season the Beef. When the oil is hot, add the sliced beef and brown, making sure to mix occasionally. Cook the meat until it is half of the way cooked (about 3 - 5 minutes). Season with salt, ground black pepper, and paprika, and mix.
Step 3: Saute the Vegetables. Transfer the meat to another pan or plate and keep it warm. Add another 1 tbsp of oil to the pan. Add the sliced onions and pepper strips. Saute the onions and peppers until soft and slightly caramelized (about 7 minutes).
Step 4: Season to Taste. Add the meat back into the pan and mix. Cook until the meat is browned and no longer pink. Taste and season the mixture with additional salt and ground black pepper if necessary. Turn the heat down to medium-low and keep warm.
Step 5: Toast the Slider Buns. Take the sliced slider buns and brush the insides with melted butter. Toast the buns on the flat-top griddle or in the 350°F oven. Toast until slightly golden brown.
Step 6: Add the Cheese. While the beef mixture is still hot add in a few slices of the provolone cheese. Mix until fully combined and melted. Begin adding the beef mixture to the bottom half of each slider bun. Top with the remaining slices of cheese.
Step 7: Melt the Cheese & Add the Toppings. Throw the sliders into the oven and allow the cheese to melt. Remove from the oven and top with the other halves of the buns. Serve and top with some of your favorite toppings and add-ons listed above. Enjoy!
