Think Smart, NOT HARD!

Turkey wings are a great substitute for an entire turkey. They easily pick up seasoning, and are moist when cooked the right way. They can be found in pretty much any grocery store or butcher. If you do not see them out, go to the meat department and ask one of the butchers. Nine times out of ten, there will be more in the back.

Turkey wings will typically come in 2 - 3 lb packages in local grocery stores. That will usually be around 5 - 6 turkey wing portions depending on their size. Turkey wings also save you a lot of time! They can easily be thawed out and baked instantly.

How to Cook the Herb Baked Turkey Wings.

First start off by cleaning and trimming your turkey wings. Remove any extra feathers that got left behind by the butchers. Soaking the wings in water, an acid (vinegar, lemon juice, etc.), and a little salt will clean off the wings in a flash. Make sure to dry your wings off.

Add some oil to the wings to help the seasonings stick. The fat content will also create a slight crust on the wings and a beautiful color. Season both sides of the wings and pat the seasoning into the wings. We want flavor throughout the entire wing! Remember to add some sliced onions to the bottom of the dish for extra flavor.

Add the water and stock to the pan while trying to avoid hitting the top of the turkey wings. We want to keep the seasonings on the wings. The added liquids will aid in cooking the wings. The liquids will also cook with the onions to create a delicious sauce that could be later made into a gravy.

We then want to bake in a 400-degree oven completely covered. This will create steam and allow the meat on the bones to fall right off. Make sure to baste the wings every so often to create color and layer the flavors!

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 325 degrees. Mix all of your seasonings together into a small bowl or an empty salt shaker.
  2. Clean and trim the turkey wings. Drizzle the extra virgin oil onto the turkey wings and massage. Season both sides of the turkey wings. Remember to press the seasoning into the wings.
  3. Add the sliced onions into an aluminum pan or casserole dish. Then, add the turkey wings on top. Add the turkey or chicken stock and water to the pan. Make sure to not drizzle the liquids on top of the turkey wings.
  4. Cover the pan/dish with aluminum foil and bake for 1.5 to 2 hours or until the turkey wings are tender. Baste the turkey wings in the cooking liquid about every 15 - 20 minutes.
  5. Uncover the wings for the last 10 minutes. Raise the oven's temperature to 375 degrees. This will create a slight crust on the wings.
  6. Remove the wings from the oven and serve with your favorite sides. Enjoy!
