The balance of savory, sweet, and spicy flavors didn’t disappoint at all. I’m telling you, you need this recipe ASAP!

MAKE THEM BAKED OR DEEP-FRIED!

These wings are so easy and delicious! But, I know that not everyone has an air fryer. Baking or Deep-Frying these wings requires a slightly different set of directions, but the flavor is just the same! Take a look below for steps to make these wings baked or deep-fried.

Baked Wing Option:

  • Heat the oven to 425°F.

  • Remove the Wings from the marinade. Bake on a ½ sheet tray with a wire rack sprayed with non-stick spray.

  • Bake crispy and fully cooked (about 20 - 25 minutes).

  • Turn the wings occasionally to maximize their crispiness.

  • Toss the wings in some of the extra marinade, garnish, and enjoy!

Deep-Fried Wing Option:

  • Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavily weighted pot on medium-high heat.

  • Toss the wings in oil and the seasoning mix.

  • When the oil is ready to use (350 – 360°F), fry the wings in batches until crispy.

  • Toss the wings in the heated sauce. Make sure they are fully coated in sauce. Serve and enjoy!

Honey Chipotle Chicken Wing Ingredients:

Okay now, let’s talk ingredients! These ingredients are very easy to find and use! You probably have a majority of them already in your pantry.

  • Chicken Wings: You can either buy the wings whole and cut them yourself, or buy the party wings pre-cut. It is solely up to you. If you decide to buy frozen wings, make sure that they are fully thawed and dried before seasoning.

  • Seasoning Mix: You should always season your chicken before you cook it! I used a basic seasoning mix of kosher salt, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, and ground black pepper.

  • Baking Powder: This is one of my secrets to making delicious crispy wings that aren’t deep-fried! Adding 1 tbsp of baking powder to your seasoning mix will help to crisp up skin. Baking powder helps to draw moisture to the skin's surface, breaking down the skin, and creating more surface area for cooking.

  • Minced Garlic: To add some additional flavor, I added some minced garlic. It works well with the overall flavor of the sauce perfectly. Make sure to only use a small amount to not overpower the other ingredients.

  • Honey: The honey is the sweet component of the sauce that helps to cut the spiciness and smokiness of the chipotles while making the sauce extra glaze-like. I used about 1 cup total.

  • Chipotles: You can easily find chipotles in adobo sauce in small cans at the grocery store. You can easily chop or blend these to get your paste for the sauce.

  • Fresh Lime Juice: To help balance the sweetness and spiciness of the sauce, I added some fresh lime juice. Plus, limes go so well with the flavors in honey and chipotle.

How to Make Honey Chipotle Wings:

These wings are simple but full of flavor! One of these wings just wasn’t enough! Did I mention they’re easy to make and take no time at all?

The full written recipe is below, but here’s an overview.

  • STEP 1: Preheat Air-Fryer & Season the Wings. Preheat the air-fryer to 400°F. Drizzle chicken wings with oil and season with kosher salt, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, ground black pepper, and 1 tbsp of baking powder.

  • STEP 2: Cook the Wings. Working in batches, add the chicken wings to the air-fryer and cook for 20 - 25 or until the chicken skin is crispy and the wings reach 165°F internally. Make sure to turn the chicken wings halfway through cooking.

  • STEP 3: Begin the Sauce. While the chicken is cooking, heat a medium skillet with 1 tbsp of vegetable or canola oil over medium heat. Add the garlic and saute for 1 minute making sure to mix occasionally.

STEP 4: Finish the Sauce. Add honey, chipotles in adobo sauce, and lime juice to the skillet. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 3 - 4 minutes just until the sauce has thickened slightly.

STEP 5: Toss Wings in Sauce & Serve! Remove the chicken wings from the air-fryer and add them to a bowl. Pour sauce over wings and toss to coat. Serve immediately and enjoy!
