FULL OF FLAVOR & Easy TO MAKE

Y’all already know that I love a good chicken wing! Whether it’s sauced, dry, or smothered, I will always have room for a chicken wing (or maybe 10 lol). But, lately, I’ve been really into eating a lot more grilled, baked, and air-fried foods. So, this time around, let’s make some wings but a little healthier.

After making this EASY Air-Fryer Cilantro-Lime Chicken Wing Recipe I became addicted (as per usual). The crispy skin on the wings paired with the mouthwatering cilantro and lime flavor was crazy good! There was just a little spice at the end which made them even better. I’m telling you, you need this recipe ASAP!

MAKE THEM BAKED OR GRILLED!

These wings are so easy and delicious! But, I know that not everyone has an air fryer. Baking or Grilling these wings requires a slightly different set of directions, but the flavor is just the same! Take a look below for steps to make these wings baked or grilled.

Baked Wing Option:

  • Heat the oven to 425°F.

  • Remove the Wings from the marinade. Bake on a ½ sheet tray with a wire rack sprayed with non-stick spray.

  • Bake crispy and fully cooked (about 20 - 25 minutes).

  • Turn the wings occasionally to maximize their crispiness.

  • Toss the wings in some of the extra marinade, garnish, and enjoy!

Grilled Wing Option:

  • Heat your grill to medium-high heat. Remove the Wings from the marinade.

  • Oil or spray your grill lightly with non-stick cooking spray. When the grill is ready, place the wings one and cook until they reach 165°F internally.

  • Remove the chicken wings from the grill. Toss the wings in some of the extra marinade, garnish, and enjoy!

Cilantro-Lime Chicken Wing Ingredients:

Okay now, let’s talk ingredients! These ingredients are very easy to find and use! You probably have a majority of them already in your pantry.

  • Chicken Wings: You can either buy the wings whole and cut them yourself, or buy the party wings pre-cut. It is solely up to you. If you decide to buy frozen wings, make sure that they are fully thawed and dried before seasoning.

  • Olive Oil: The olive oil helps the other ingredients release their flavors a lot better. This is because most herbs and spices are oil-soluble. You don’t need much so make sure to only use ⅓ of a cup for this recipe.

  • Minced Garlic: I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t add garlic to pretty much everything! I added about 2 tbsp to the marinade for some added depth and flavor. Plus, in my opinion, all good cilantro-lime marinades have some sort of garlic.

  • Fresh Lime Juice: When making marinades and sauces I always like using fresh fruit juices. For one, you get a lot more flavor and for two, you don’t get that strange pasteurized aftertaste.

  • Honey: To add a hint of sweetness and balance out the rest of the flavors, I added in a small amount of honey. This can be substituted for agave or a little brown sugar if you don't like it or have honey on hand.

  • Seasoning Mix: You have to remember to season your marinade! Since the marinade is supposed to add flavor to your proteins, you want to have both liquids and seasonings to give a good rounded flavor. I did a mixture of Oregano, Ground Cumin, Chili Powder, Cayenne Pepper, Salt, and Ground Black Pepper.

  • Baking Powder: The baking powder is totally optional. I usually add it to my seasoning mixes when I’m not frying my chicken wings. It helps with making the skin on the wings extra crispy without the added fat of a deep fryer.

  • Fresh Cilantro Leaves: Fresh, Fresh, Fresh! I can’t stress this enough. Fresh over Dried will always be better for me. But, if you don’t have time to cut any, I suggest using a fresh cilantro paste. You can easily find these in the fresh produce section of your local grocery stores.

  • Lime Wedges: The lime wedges are optional, but they’re great for serving with the chicken wings for some added visual and juice at the end.

How to Make Cilantro-Lime Chicken Wings:

These wings are simple but full of flavor! One of these wings just wasn’t enough! Did I mention they’re easy to make and take no time at all?

The full written recipe is below, but here’s an overview.

  • STEP 1: Combine Ingredients for Marinade. In a food processor, add olive oil, garlic, lime juice, honey, oregano, ground cumin, chili powder, cayenne pepper, salt, ground black pepper, baking powder, and cilantro. Blend until fully combined. This can also be mixed in a bowl if you don’t have a food processor.

  • STEP 2: Marinate the Chicken Wings. Remove ⅓ cup of the marinade and reserve for later. Place the chicken wings in a large plastic bag or bowl. Add the marinade and mix until all the wings are coated. Seal the bag or cover the bowl and marinate for 30 minutes – 2 hours (or overnight).

  • STEP 3: Air-Fry the Chicken Wings. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F. Working batches, add the chicken wings to the air-fryer and cook for 20 - 25 or until the chicken skin is crispy and the wings reach 165°F internally. Make sure to turn the chicken wings halfway through cooking.

  • STEP 4: Combine Ingredients for Dipping Sauce. While the chicken wings are cooking, mix the ingredients for the cilantro dipping sauce in a small bowl. Hold the sauce for later use.

  • STEP 5: Toss Wings & Serve with Sauce. Remove the chicken wings from the air-fryer and toss them in the remaining marinade. Sprinkle with additional salt if desired. Serve the wings immediately with the cilantro dipping sauce and lime wedges. Enjoy!
