Lemon, Pepper, and Me!
When we’re talking wings, there are certain flavors that are a must at every single function. Lemon Pepper (specifically lemon pepper wet) is a flavor that I always need in my rotation. This flavor gained popularity very fast and almost every brand has some type of lemon pepper seasoning or sauce.
My Crispy Air-Fryer Lemon Pepper Wings are crazy good and will put you in a food coma! These wings were crispy and flavorful just on their own. But when I tossed them in my homemade lemon pepper butter sauce, I was in wing HEAVEN. Y’all have to try these wings before I end up eating them all!
MAKE THEM BAKED OR Deep Fried!
These wings are so easy and delicious. But, I know that not everyone has an air fryer. Baking or Deep Frying these wings requires a slightly different set of directions, but the flavor is just the same! Take a look below for steps to make these wings baked or deep fried.
Baked Wing Option:
Remove the flour, cornstarch, and frying oil from the recipe.
Heat the oven to 425°F.
Add 1 tbsp of baking powder to the seasoning mix. Toss the wings in the seasoning. The baking powder will help to create crispy wings.
Bake on a ½ sheet tray with a wire rack sprayed with non-stick spray. Bake or air-fry until crispy and fully cooked (about 20 - 25 minutes).
Turn the wings occasionally to maximize their crispiness.
Toss the wings in the sauce, garnish, and enjoy!
Deep-Fried Wing Option:
Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavily weighted pot on medium-high heat.
Toss the wings in oil and the seasoning mix.
When the oil is ready to use (350 – 360°F), fry the wings in batches until crispy.
Toss the wings in the heated sauce. Make sure they are fully coated in sauce. Drizzle with extra seasoning, if desired. Serve and enjoy!
Crispy Air-Fryer Lemon Pepper Wings Ingredients:
Okay now, let’s talk ingredients! These ingredients are very easy to find and use! You probably have a majority of them already in your pantry.
Chicken Wings: You can either buy the wings whole and cut them yourself, or buy the party wings pre-cut. It is solely up to you. If you decide to buy frozen wings, make sure that they are fully thawed and dried before seasoning.
Lemon Pepper Seasoning: You can’t have Lemon Pepper Wings without Lemon Pepper Seasoning. Use your favorite brand when making this recipe. Make sure to look at the sodium content. Some brands have a higher salt content.
Seasoning Mix: You always should season both your chicken before you cook it! I used a basic seasoning mix of kosher salt, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, and ground black pepper.
Unsalted Butter: The butter helps the seasoning to stick to the wings while adding some richness to the sauce. You can use salted butter, but be mindful that most lemon pepper seasonings are slightly higher in salt.
Minced Garlic: To add some additional flavor, I added some minced garlic. It works well with pretty much all butter-based sauces. Make sure to only use a small amount to not overpower the lemon pepper seasoning.
Lemon Zest & Lemon Juice: To get as much lemon flavor, I used both fresh lemon zest and juice. They both add flavor and a lot of fragrance to the wings.
Ground Black Pepper: Some lemon pepper seasonings aren’t peppery enough in my opinion. To help offset that, have some extra ground black pepper on hand. Taste your sauce at the end and add some additional pepper if necessary.

Add the remaining ingredients and allow the sauce to simmer for 1 - 2 minutes until combined. Taste and add an additional ½ tsp of ground pepper if you desire more black pepper flavor.
